Bio
Christopher Masoure, born 1957 in Toronto, son of Leon Masoure – a restoration artist and Russian iconic painter. Educated in Fine Arts at the Art Institute of America. Masoure is influenced by the abstract artists of the New York School such as Dekooning, Pollock, Hoffman, Rothko and Kline. Also influenced by Soulages and Tachist painters such as Tapies and Burri.
Masoure’s paintings are comprised of several layers of acrylic paint, some of which are rubbed away and scratched with tools. His process can vary in time to weeks to months to even years, until the piece may (or not) be declared finished. The observer is encouraged to experience Masoure’s marks and how they relate to one another. From the high saturated rough marks to the soft monochromatic backdrops to hard contrasting accents makes his work visually stimulating.
